Bristlecone Pine at Sunset.
This tree belongs to the Brislecone Pine Ancient Forest, which is located in a very remote area in the. Sierra Nevada at about 10, 000 feet above sea level. I went there during May and they had just opened the very narrow and steep road that connects this place with civilization. It takes about an hour of driving uphill on this bumpy road but it is well worth it. Some of these trees are the oldest living things on earth, 4,000 to 5,000 years old. The day i took this photo there were no people around, it felt like a different world, my cel phone didn’t have any reception, the trails to hike on were really narrow and on a side of a mountain so it was crucial to watch my steps literally every second. Standing next to some of these trees can be a very powerful experience, their shapes are so dramatic and expressive and then when you think on how old they are and the extreme weather conditions they had to endure at such altitude year after year you realize they are real treasures that not many people get to see.
